Winning Poem by Nana Rodgers
We’re pleased to announce the winner of our ‘Words of Sanctuary’ Poetry Competition.
Congratulations to Nana Rodgers!
Nana Rodgers is a man guided by integrity, resilience, and a lifelong pursuit of self-mastery. He believes true power is built through the balance of body, mind, and soul.
His philosophy is simple: move with intention, live with empathy and honour, and leave every situation, space, or being better and stronger than you found them.
Behind his calm presence lies a quiet fire of past dynamic experiences, the kind that forges character in silence and speaks only through action.
Winning Poem
Let me be silent, succinct, and think, sanctuary?
An asylum, security, shelter, protection, a refuge, a place to feel safe, or just a place to be.
It's insane how one can feign to be insane seeking sanctuary, asylum in asylum, of a sanitary asylum.
Some get pent up to the extent of intentionally getting sent down to pen in a penitentiary.
To eat, a TV, a bed to sleep, to feel safe and secure, guarded by guards, sentries that stand by as security.
I guess it's more peaceful and secure than where there's no peace, but war.
The blood! the possibility of being blown to pieces by bullets and bombs that don’t discriminate or wait, but assassinate those who look like you and me,
by security militant rebel forces, and the world's peacekeeping military.
Others seek sanctuary in a friend’s family, a brother, a sister, a husband, or wife.
I'm grateful for life; it shall always suffice to me. As always, being as positive as one can be.
One should take time to think carefully, my inner sanctum, my mind, body, and soul, shall always be my sanctuary.
That only time can take from me.
Thank you to everyone who submitted their work to our competition. We were truly moved by the creativity and courage shared through each poem.
We look forward to celebrating more community voices in our future projects!
