After travelling thousands of miles to reach the United Kingdom, many newly arrived women think their epic journey is over, whereas in reality, it may be only just beginning.

Our participants show us that growing old involves adapting to change, including physical health, retirement, and losing loved ones. Resilience and adaptability become essential. Embracing change rather than resisting it can lead to a much more positive and fulfilling ageing experience.

We seek a friendly and dynamic outreach and engagement lead to support weekly sessions for female asylum seekers, refugees, and local migrant women.

The event gave individuals the chance to pause and deeply consider the profound effects of the pandemic on their lives and communities while also highlighting the resilience and support found within our collective community.

Adults and kids loved rolling out the pizza sourdough and choosing their toppings. A halal BBQ was also on the go under a shady cherry tree, managed by a team of asylum seeker men, with abundant meat and vegetable kebab offerings.

The highlight of the event was making the wellbeing boxes. This unique activity allowed participants to express their creativity and put themselves and their wellbeing first after a lifetime of looking after other people.

We all know it’s painful to feel lonely, and this can be even harder when facing other disadvantages. Currently, 700,000 Londoners are classed as severely lonely, which is 1 in 12.

Our ‘Touching Safe Ground’ project facilitators and attendees love coming to the space to practise trauma-aware yoga and English language for women refugees, as well as making use of the outdoor space.
